MANAGEMENT VOCABULARY 5 CORPORATE HIERARCHY



Who are all the people connected with an enterprise/ company / corporationLet us learn the various words used to describe them.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER is the highest ranking officer in a company. (CEO)

PRESIDENT is second in command.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS lays down policy issues of a company.

Some of the DIRECTORS are the senior officers of the company.

Rest of the directors are independent of the company.

The DIRECTORS of a company are elected by the SHAREHOLDERS.

PRESIDENTS often hold the post of CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER IN( COO ).

COO looks after the day to day operations of the company. He executes the policy laid down by the BOARD OF DIRECTORS. He reports to the Board and the Board reports back to the SHAREHOLDERS.

Shareholders are supposed to be the ultimate owners of a company.

VICE PRESIDENT reports to the president. Each vice president is given an area of responsibility.Finance, Human resources, Marketing etc.

In U K,the president is equivalent to Managing Director.

Vice President will be called DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR.Other officers are directors, deputy directors etc.
I hope you now got an idea of the corporate structure.  When you read articles about corporations,you are likely to come across these terms. I am giving you a general idea only. For a deeper understanding, kindly go through relevant literature.
